IHS Science Club
The 2009-2010 Independence High School Science Club is made up thirty four students. These students are primarily enrolled in either Physics 1, Chemistry 1, or Human Anatomy and Physiology. Academic achievement from the previous school year is a key factor in determining membership.
Activities and responsibilities of members:
The club's successful paper recycling effort - every two weeks paper items are collected by members from faculty and staff. This recycling pickup is not a fund raiser for the club. It is done strictly with conservation and concern for trees and forests in mind.
Campus appearance - making the campus neater and more appealing in different ways is an important duty of club members. The club planted three Cleveland Pear trees on the east side of the campus this past school year, and there are plans to plant three additional trees on the west side this coming spring.
Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter - the club will assist with the efforts of this much needed addition to the county in different ways throughout the school year, and promote a message of responsible ownership of pets .
Information about IHS Science Club and science related items in the news (from newspapers, magazines, TV, other media outlets, etc) - in lobby display case of the school.
Assisting with the 2010 IHS science fair during the 3rd 9 weeks.
Recognition of Earth Day in April 2010.
